Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency announced this week the takedown of a cocaine trafficking operation built around an Instagram luxury-lifestyle influencer known online as “KC Luxury.” At the center of it is Afolabi Kazeem Michael, arrested the night of August 13 at the boarding gate of Murtala Muhammed International Airport as he attempted to board a business-class flight to Paris.
NDLEA operatives intercepted a 184.5-kilogram cocaine consignment tied to Michael and a second suspect, Lawal Kehinde, a logistics-company employee, moving through a commercial courier company. The shipment was valued at roughly ₦39 billion, about $27.7 million on the international market. Investigators say the route ran from South America through Nigeria and on to the UK, continental Europe, and Asia. A raid on Michael’s luxury apartment on Banana Island in Lagos turned up a fleet of exotic vehicles.
The Storefront and the Supply Chain
Online, Michael built a following around a gold and jewelry business and a stream of luxury content: watches, designer outfits, yacht parties on the Lagos lagoon. NDLEA investigators allege the storefront functioned as cover for laundering proceeds from the trafficking operation.
NDLEA Chairman Mohammed Buba Marwa was direct about how the arrest went down: “This cartel leader did not walk into our custody voluntarily. On the night of 13th August 2026, upon credible intelligence that he intended to flee the country on a business-class flight to Paris, our operatives moved decisively and apprehended him at the boarding gate.”
The case has drawn heavy attention on Nigerian social media, where Michael’s fall from a curated online persona to airport arrest has become its own cautionary tale about the gap between an influencer’s feed and what’s actually funding it.
