Florida State Rep. Angie Nixon, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, publicly clashed with conservative activist Laura Loomer this weekend after Loomer posted a racist rant directed at Nixon on X.
What Loomer Said
Loomer described Nixon using a racial slur and demeaning language, at one point writing that Nixon “speak[s] Ebonics” and suggesting she needed to be treated like an animal on a leash, remarks widely condemned as overtly racist.
Nixon’s Response
Nixon responded on X by referencing a past video of Loomer eating dog food on camera, writing, “Girl. You ate dog food on camera. In the words of Queen Latifah, ‘Who you calling a [expletive]?'”
Background
The exchange comes after Loomer and a state representative reportedly attempted to shut down a Florida Democratic Socialists of America rally earlier this month, and follows Nixon’s upset primary win over retired Army Lt. Col. Alex Vindman in Florida’s Senate race.
Why It’s Drawing Attention
The exchange has circulated widely on social media, with Loomer’s remarks in particular drawing criticism for using overtly racist language against a sitting state legislator and U.S. Senate nominee. Neither Nixon’s campaign nor Loomer has indicated the dispute is likely to end there.
