Reacher Season 4 premiered on Prime Video on August 12, and the reviews are in: mostly strong, with one real point of disagreement among critics. The season settled around an 87% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes after opening near unanimous praise.

Alan Ritchson remains the season’s anchor, and reviewers say the action has actually gotten leaner, not more bloated. Collider’s David Caballero gave the season a 9/10, calling it “more muscular and unforgiving than ever,” pointing to a shift toward brutal hand-to-hand and knife combat over the gunfights that dominated earlier seasons. ButWhyTho, also scoring it 9/10, praised how the larger ensemble cast is used, singling out newcomer Jacob (played by Christopher Rodriguez Marquette) as a genuine standout rather than filler.

Where the Criticism Actually Lands

The real critique isn’t about bloat, it’s about plotting. TheCosmicCircus’ review noted the season leans further into international conspiracy territory than past seasons, writing that it feels “closer to a spy thriller than a traditional Reacher season,” and flagged that some plot mechanics “begin to feel confusing or rushed.” ButWhyTho used similar language, calling the plot “slightly convoluted” while still saying it works.

That’s a narrower complaint than a full “the franchise lost the plot” narrative. Most reviewers agree the season’s move toward a bigger, more serialized conspiracy is a genuine format shift for the show, and it’s one some critics think doesn’t always pay off cleanly, even as they praise the action and the ensemble cast around Ritchson.

What do you think? Does Reacher work better as a lean, self-contained investigation, or are you along for the bigger conspiracy arc? Let us know your thoughts in the comments on BeezLoop.com!
