Trump-backed Mike Mazzei narrowly defeated sitting Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond in the state’s Republican gubernatorial runoff, winning by a little more than 2,000 votes out of over 371,000 cast, with all precincts reporting but the results still unofficial pending state certification.

A Race Decided by a Trump Endorsement

Drummond, the state’s attorney general, had led a crowded first-round field but fell short of the majority needed to avoid a runoff. Mazzei, who carried Trump’s endorsement into the runoff, closed the gap and edged ahead in a race decided by roughly half a percentage point.

What’s Next

Mazzei now advances to represent Republicans in November’s general election for governor, in a state where a GOP nominee starts as a heavy favorite. The margin is close enough that a recount request remains possible once the vote is officially certified.
