An Upper Pottsgrove Township police corporal has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old college student who had gone to the wrong house looking for friends.
What Happened
Cpl. Sean Farrell, 58, shot and killed Glenwood “Bubba” Pysher IV on August 23. Pysher, a student at Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey, had been out with friends and made a wrong turn to the wrong home after leaving a pub crawl. He was on a video call with friends trying to help him find the right location when the shooting happened around 12:32 a.m.
What Investigators Found
The Montgomery County Detective Bureau reviewed Farrell’s body camera footage and determined he had less-lethal options on his belt, including a Taser, that he did not use. Investigators found Farrell was a safe distance from Pysher, positioned behind a car, and that Pysher had his hands raised and was unarmed at the time of the shooting.
The Family’s Response
“It was a senseless loss, and it shouldn’t have happened,” Pysher’s mother, Erin Pysher, said. “I don’t know what the officer was thinking or doing that his first response was to shoot an unarmed kid.”
