A Las Vegas jury found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of first-degree murder in the 1996 killing of rap icon Tupac Shakur, three decades after the drive-by shooting.
The Verdict
Jurors deliberated for about three hours after a roughly two-week trial before returning the guilty verdict Monday. Davis, 63, is the only person ever criminally charged in Shakur’s killing.
The Case Against Him
Prosecutors did not accuse Davis of pulling the trigger, but portrayed him as the shot-caller who orchestrated the shooting in retaliation for an earlier casino lobby attack on his nephew that same night. Much of the case relied on Davis’s own past interviews and public comments about the killing.
What’s Next
Davis is scheduled to be sentenced October 13 and faces up to life in prison without parole. He told the judge after the verdict that he intends to appeal.
