A 20-year-old Palm Bay woman was killed in a chain-reaction crash on I-95 in Brevard County late Sunday after an alligator on the interstate set off the collision.
How It Happened
A 58-year-old man driving a Mercedes-Benz southbound saw an alligator on the interstate and was unable to avoid it, striking the animal. The woman, driving a Toyota Tacoma behind him, swerved to avoid the collision and lost control of her truck.
What Happened Next
Her Tacoma overturned, ejecting her into the center lane, where an unknown vehicle struck her before fleeing the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Investigation
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol, including the search for the driver who fled after striking the ejected woman.
