Israeli special forces captured a senior Hamas security official in a raid on Gaza City, while airstrikes intended to cover the operation killed four Palestinians, according to health officials in Gaza.
Who Was Captured
The detainee was identified as Mueen Al-Arabid, described as the head of Hamas’s General Security apparatus and one of the group’s most senior remaining figures in Gaza. Israel’s military said the operation was carried out jointly by Shin Bet intelligence forces and the military in a Hamas-controlled area of the city.
The Casualties
Gaza health officials said at least four people, including three children, were killed in the strikes and gunfire accompanying the raid. Gaza’s Hamas-run interior ministry said Al-Arabid’s wife was killed and some of his children were injured during the operation.
Israel’s Response
Prime Minister Netanyahu congratulated the forces involved, calling the raid a “bold action.”
