A Houston father ordered Burger King through DoorDash and got a story he will be telling for years instead. Kiante Matlock says his Ring doorbell camera caught his delivery driver arriving at his northeast Houston home completely naked, and by the time he got to the door himself, the driver was already gone.
Matlock told local reporters he was playing video games with his daughter on August 24 when she pointed out the delivery notification. Glancing at the doorbell footage, he initially assumed the driver was wearing some kind of bodysuit. It was not until he looked closer that he realized there was no clothing involved at all.
DoorDash’s response
Matlock did not eat the food. He reported the incident to DoorDash, which refunded the order and confirmed the driver has been permanently removed from the platform. A company spokesperson called the behavior “vulgar and completely unacceptable” and said DoorDash does not tolerate sexual misconduct of any kind from anyone delivering on its platform.
Houston police and DoorDash both urged customers who encounter similarly alarming behavior to preserve any video evidence, report it to the company immediately, and contact law enforcement if they feel unsafe.
An easy call, and a reminder of a bigger blind spot
There is nothing complicated about this one. A gig platform that connects a stranger to your front door has a basic obligation to make sure that stranger shows up clothed, and DoorDash’s ban here was the only defensible response. The harder question the incident raises, and one DoorDash and its competitors have faced criticism over before, is how much real-time visibility these companies actually have into who is behind the wheel once someone is approved to deliver. A doorbell camera catching this driver in the act was luck, not oversight. A gig economy that runs on strangers walking up to your house works only as long as the platforms policing those strangers are paying closer attention than a customer’s Ring camera happened to.
