An Israeli man was stabbed multiple times at a West Bank farming outpost on Monday, and troops later shot and killed the Palestinian suspect after tracking him to a nearby village, the Israeli military said.
The attack happened at the Maoz Yehuda outpost near the Palestinian village of Usarin in the Jordan Valley. According to the military, a Palestinian man arrived by vehicle, stabbed an Israeli in his 20s, and fled the scene. Magen David Adom medics treated the victim and listed his condition as moderate to serious.
How the manhunt ended
Israeli forces searched the area and located a suspect in a village near his vehicle. The military said the man then tried to stab the soldiers who found him, and a company commander from the 411th Artillery Battalion shot and killed him. Some early reports out of the region described a 16-year-old being arrested after an hours-long search, an account that differs from the military’s version of a fatal shooting, and the discrepancy hadn’t been resolved as of Monday.
The Israeli military has not released additional details about the suspect’s identity or the exact circumstances of the confrontation.
Part of a broader pattern
The stabbing adds to what rights groups have already flagged as one of the most violent stretches for the West Bank in years, with the United Nations describing settler and security-related violence there as having hit an all-time high earlier this summer. Monday’s attack and the fatal response are still under investigation by the Israeli military, and no additional arrests had been announced as of the latest update.
