A Canton, Georgia woman remains missing after catastrophic flash flooding struck the Nepal-Tibet border region last week, as her family holds out hope she will be found alive.
Who She Is
Mary Sorensen, 60, had just completed a spiritual pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and was waiting at an immigration facility in Tibet to head to India when the flooding hit. She was last seen around 9 a.m. on August 26 at the Gyirong Immigration Facility, according to her family.
The Scale of the Disaster
At least 85 Americans remain unaccounted for, and the combined death toll in Nepal and China has surpassed 950, with more than 4,400 people still reported missing.
What Family Says
Sorensen texted her family before the disaster that she was grateful for the trip. Her siblings in Georgia are holding out hope she will be found.
