The White House now runs a 24-hour video channel of the president. It launched days after the administration banned three news organizations from the building, and it opened with a rerun of a speech from July.
What it is?
- Called Trump TV: The Essentials Station.
- Launched Monday, September 21, 2026.
- Streams on YouTube, at whitehouse.gov/trumptv, and in the official White House app.
- Programming is previously recorded speeches, bill signings and appearances, played on a continuous loop.
- It opened with a replay of Trump’s July 3, 2026 speech at Mount Rushmore.
- No anchors, no ticker, no chyrons.
A White House official described the point as replaying the president’s greatest hits that the media fails to cover fairly, oftentimes on purpose.
The timing
This did not appear in a vacuum. It launched after the White House barred CNN, Politico and MS NOW, while three outlets were suing over access.
We have covered the sequence: the White House cut CNN from Air Force One and nobody replaced the pool, federal money bought political ads inside NFL broadcasts, and the Pentagon was directed to defend the midterms.
Critics including elected Democrats and press freedom groups call it state-run media. A White House official rejected that, telling NPR it would be like calling an elected official’s social media account state-run media.
The BeezLoop Take
The White House comparison to a social media account is the part to examine, because it is the whole defense and it does not survive contact with the facts. Every administration posts its own video. None of them built a 24-hour linear channel after removing the news organizations that would have covered the same events.
The sequence is what makes this different from a press office doing its job. Ban the outlets, then launch the replacement, then buy airtime for the message during football games. Each step is individually defensible and the combination is a government that has substantially reduced the number of people who can ask a question and substantially increased the amount of video it produces about itself. That is not a communications strategy. It is a substitution.
What is almost funny, and worth saying because it undercuts the alarm a little, is how bad it is. A 24-hour channel with no anchors, no ticker and no new content, opening with a three-month-old Mount Rushmore speech, is not Pravda. It is a screensaver. The danger here is not that Trump TV is persuasive. It is that it exists at all and that a future administration with more competence now has the precedent and the infrastructure.
The precedent point is the one we would press regardless of party. A Democratic White House inheriting a government-run broadcast channel, a press corps thinned by bans, and a demonstrated willingness to spend appropriated money on promotional advertising would be in possession of something no previous president had. Anyone cheering this should decide now whether they would accept it in 2029.
If the coverage is unfair, why is the remedy a channel instead of a press conference?
If the coverage is unfair, why is the remedy a channel instead of a press conference? And what does the next president do with the infrastructure this one built?
