The Falcons went into Lambeau on Thursday night and won 35 to 14. It is the first time Green Bay has lost a home opener since 2012.
What happened
Michael Penix came back and the offense looked like a different team.
He was 13 of 15 across the second and third quarters with a touchdown. He finished 18 of 25 for 256 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Drake London had been quiet through two games. He caught nine passes for 194 yards.
London and Bijan Robinson combined for 407 yards and two touchdowns between them.
Falcons cornerback Billy Bowman made his 2026 debut.
Where it leaves both teams
Both are 1-2.
For Atlanta that is a season pulled back from the edge. Two losses to open a year puts a team in a hole that historically very few climb out of, and a third would have ended the conversation in September.
For Green Bay it is worse than the record. Losing a home opener for the first time in fourteen years, by three scores, on national television, is the kind of night that starts conversations a franchise does not want in Week 3.
The Penix question
Thirteen of fifteen in the middle two quarters is the number that matters, more than the final line.
That is a stretch where a quarterback is seeing it clearly and the ball is going where it is supposed to. Whether that is a healthy Penix finding rhythm or one good night against a defense having a bad one is the thing Atlanta finds out over the next month.
The interception is worth keeping in view. So is the fact that 256 yards on 25 attempts is efficient rather than enormous. The story here is the receivers turning short throws into long gains.
The BeezLoop Take
One game in Week 3 does not settle anything and the temptation to declare Atlanta fixed should be resisted. Beating a 1-2 Packers team by three scores is a good night, not a verdict, and the Falcons have spent several seasons producing exactly one performance like this before returning to what they were.
What is real is Drake London. A receiver who was invisible for two weeks putting up 194 yards is not variance, it is usage, and somebody in that building decided to fix how he was being deployed. That is a coaching answer to a coaching problem, and it is more encouraging than any single stat line.
Green Bay is the team with the actual problem. A home opener loss for the first time since 2012 is a statistic that sounds like trivia until you consider what Lambeau in September is supposed to be worth. Losing it by 21, at home, in prime time, means the crowd and the field advantage delivered nothing.
And the Penix stretch is the thing to watch rather than celebrate. Thirteen of fifteen is what it looks like when a quarterback is right. Atlanta has seen flashes like that before and then watched them not hold. The next three weeks tell you which this was.
The question
Is this the Falcons offense finally working, or the same one-good-night pattern that has burned Atlanta before? And how worried should Green Bay be about losing a home opener by three scores?
Elsewhere in the league, Jaxson Dart is out for the Giants’ regular season after seven snaps, and Week 2 had already taken two quarterbacks down.
