Three results that mattered
Saints 24, Ravens 17. New Orleans went into Baltimore and took one. That is the result of the week and it is not close. The Ravens are now staring at questions they did not expect to answer in September.
Panthers 34, Falcons 3. A division game that turned into a demolition. Atlanta scored three points at home. Whatever the Falcons thought they were this year, Sunday said otherwise.
Chiefs 33, Colts 30 in overtime. Kansas City needed extra time against Indianapolis at Arrowhead. They got the win. They did not look like a team that should have needed it.
Also worth noting: the Vikings won a game 9-3. Nine to three. Both of those offenses have things to sort out. For contrast, Week 1 gave us a Bears scoring record.
The injury report
This is the part that hurt.
Jayden Daniels, Commanders. Got his foot stepped on, tried to catch himself on his left arm, and dislocated the same elbow that cost him time last season. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the dislocation and said there is no fracture, which is the only good news in the sentence. Daniels was excellent before it happened, 96 yards and a touchdown through the air plus seven carries for 69 yards.
Caleb Williams, Bears. Carted off with a hamstring injury in a game Chicago lost 9-3. No timeline yet.
Fantasy fallout
Straight to it.
- Jayden Daniels managers: you need a starter this week. Do not wait on news that is going to be bad. Dislocations to that joint cost him time last year and this is the same elbow.
- Marcus Mariota is the Washington add. He took over after halftime. He is a real QB2 in superflex and two-quarterback formats, streamable in deeper single-QB leagues.
- Terry McLaurin and the Washington pass game take a real hit. Mariota is competent and he is not Daniels. Adjust expectations down, do not panic-sell into a crater.
- Caleb Williams managers: same drill. Hamstrings linger. Get a bridge starter before waivers clear.
- Chicago skill players are a fade until there is a timeline. A 3-point output tells you enough.
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba put up three touchdowns in Seattle’s 31-7 win. He is not on your waiver wire, but if somebody in your league is still treating him like a WR3, that is a buy window closing fast.
What to watch in Week 3
The wider sports business had its own week, including LIV Golf filing for bankruptcy after the Saudi PIF walked away. Back on the field: whether Washington has a plan beyond Mariota. Whether Atlanta responds or folds. And whether Baltimore treats the Saints loss as a bad Sunday or the start of something, because the schedule does not soften much from here.
