Rick Harrison, star of the History Channel series “Pawn Stars,” underwent emergency heart bypass surgery in early September after a procedure that was initially expected to be a routine heart stent placement instead required a more serious operation, according to a statement from a family spokesperson.
The spokesperson said Harrison, 61, went to the hospital for what doctors anticipated would be a straightforward stent procedure. Once doctors examined his heart further, they determined bypass surgery was necessary. Harrison’s wife, Agripina “Angie” Polushkin, and other family members have been with him during his hospital stay, and the family has said he is expected to make a full recovery.

Reports following the surgery indicate Harrison has been recovering at home after his hospital stay. The family spokesperson did not specify a timeline for his return to filming or public appearances tied to “Pawn Stars,” which Harrison has starred in since the show premiered on History in 2009 alongside his father, the late Richard Harrison, and son Corey Harrison.
The health scare comes during a difficult stretch for the Harrison family. Rick’s son Corey Harrison was injured in a motorcycle crash earlier this year that left him with broken ribs and led to a fundraising campaign to help cover his medical costs. Rick Harrison publicly commented on that fundraiser at the time, saying his son was a grown man responsible for his own finances, a remark that drew attention separate from his own current recovery.
