Thirty-one percent of Gen Z voters who backed Trump in 2024 say they regret that decision, according to a Navigator Research poll released this week, with Millennials close behind at 28% and regret dropping off sharply among older generations.
The Numbers by Generation
Navigator’s poll, which sampled 3,000 registered voters between June 4 and July 27 with a 2.2-point margin of error, found 20% of Gen X Trump voters and just 10% of Baby Boomer Trump voters expressing regret, a pattern showing the youngest voters souring on their choice fastest.
Trump’s Standing With Young Voters More Broadly
The same polling found Trump’s overall approval rating is now lowest among Gen Z of any generation, with only 33% of Gen Z voters saying they either strongly or somewhat approve of his job performance.
What’s Driving the Shift
Pollsters and analysts point to affordability concerns, the ongoing war in Iran, and rising costs tied to this year’s tariff disputes as the issues most commonly cited by young voters expressing buyer’s remorse, a reversal from 2024 when many younger voters cited frustration over the cost of living as a reason to back Trump in the first place.

With the midterms approaching, a measurable erosion in support among the youngest cohort of Trump’s 2024 coalition gives Democratic strategists a specific demographic to target, though whether stated regret in a poll translates into different turnout or vote choice in November remains an open question.
