Where the Frustration Is Concentrated

The sharpest dissatisfaction isn’t coming from the most hardcore MAGA voters, it’s concentrated among Trump voters who identify less strongly with the movement. Roughly 41% of that group points to rising costs, including gas and energy bills, as one of the administration’s main failures; another 28% cite the economy more broadly. Favorability toward MAGA as a label has also slipped through the second term, even as core support for Trump himself has held up better.

Part of the disconnect is structural. Tariffs are paid by the U.S. companies importing the goods, and those costs get passed to consumers at the register, not absorbed by the foreign country the tariff is nominally targeting. When a 50% tariff hits an import category, retail prices on that category tend to follow within weeks, not years.

None of this means the coalition is fracturing outright. But a president whose 2024 pitch leaned heavily on affordability is now governing through a stretch where affordability is the thing his own voters are most unhappy about, and that gap is the one worth watching heading into the midterms.

What do you think? Is this cost-of-living frustration a real political problem for Trump heading into the midterms, or does it fade once people head to the polls? Let us know your thoughts in the comments on BeezLoop.com!
