One Piece is getting two new theatrical films: ONE PIECE FILM: GOD VALLEY, premiering in Japan in summer 2027, and a second film titled ONE PIECE FILM: BAAD, set for 2029. Toei and creator Eiichiro Oda announced both at the close of ONE PIECE DAY ’26, closing out the event with the franchise’s biggest theatrical news in years.
God Valley will be the series’ 15th film and adapts the God Valley Incident, the flashback covering the historic clash between a young Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp against Rocks D. Xebec and his crew. It’s one of the most requested adaptations among longtime fans, since the incident set up the origins of several major characters, including ties to Shanks and the Blackbeard Pirates’ backstory. The film lands as part of the manga’s 30th anniversary celebrations in 2027 and follows directly on the heels of God Valley’s flashback arc playing out in the ongoing anime, which is currently in the middle of the Elbaph storyline.
What Do We Know About BAAD?
Almost nothing, by design. Toei hasn’t released plot or character details for the second film, but the title logo was hand-drawn by Oda himself, a detail the studio specifically called out in its announcement. BAAD is timed to the anime’s own 30th anniversary in 2029, two years after God Valley, giving the franchise a multi-year theatrical rollout around its biggest milestone yet.
Why the Timing Matters
Releasing God Valley while the anime is actively animating that same flashback in the Elbaph arc means the film and the TV series are set up to reinforce each other rather than compete, with the movie likely expanding on scenes the anime can only cover in a handful of episodes. Toei has used this same approach before, timing films to line up with major story beats rather than releasing them as disconnected side stories.
