A licensed practical nurse and her two adult sons were found dead inside their Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, townhome on Sunday, August 30, in what police are calling an apparent double murder-suicide.
Officers were called to the home on the 3200 block of 78th Street East for a welfare check and found all three people dead inside, according to the Inver Grove Heights Police Department. The department has identified the victims as 43-year-old Jamie Lee Charles, her 19-year-old son Willie Samuel Shaw Jr., and her 22-year-old son Jaymison Samuel Shaw.
State employment records show Charles worked as a licensed practical nurse. Investigators believe Jaymison Shaw killed his mother and younger brother before taking his own life, and police say the incident appears to have been contained to the residence, with no ongoing threat to the public.
What investigators have said so far
Police have not disclosed how the three died or whether a weapon was recovered at the scene. As of the department’s September 1 update, the investigation remains open, and no further details on a motive have been released.

Inver Grove Heights is a suburb of roughly 35,000 people south of St. Paul. Neighbors on 78th Street East described the area to local reporters as quiet, and said they were shaken by the deaths, according to the Star Tribune.
