Apple has cut roughly 200 jobs across its Vision Pro and Siri teams, according to Bloomberg, as the company redirects resources away from underperforming projects and toward its delayed effort to rebuild Siri around generative AI.
Where the Cuts Landed
About 100 of the cuts hit the Vision Pro division, concentrated in the gaming and immersive video teams. The $3,499 headset has sold far below Apple’s early expectations since its 2024 launch, weighed down by its price and a bulky user experience that has limited everyday use cases. The other roughly 100 cuts hit Siri and software teams, including Apple’s Intelligent Systems Experience group, which works on AI features across Apple’s devices.
Why Siri Is Being Restructured
The Siri-related layoffs are tied to the rollout of a rebuilt Siri AI platform running on new technical architecture, according to reporting on the changes. That overhaul changes the skill sets Apple needs on the team, leading the company to cut some existing roles as it rebuilds around the new system rather than adding staff on top of the old one.
Part of a Bigger Pattern
Apple’s cuts are a small piece of a much larger wave of technology layoffs this year: more than 300 layoff events across the tech industry in 2026 have affected over 200,000 workers, a total that already exceeds all of 2025, as companies including Microsoft, Oracle, Intuit, and Epic Games have all announced significant workforce reductions tied at least in part to AI-driven reorganizations.
