But we need to stop treating global conflict like a spectator esport and look at the boots-on-the-ground reality.
This is the gamification of war, and it is hiding a brutal truth. While military executives and political elites play high-stakes chess with remote-controlled joysticks on the other side of the planet, everyday, working-class families are immediately forced to pay the price.
Every time a refinery burns or a shipping lane is threatened, multinational energy conglomerates have the perfect, unchallengeable excuse to instantly jack up prices at your local gas pump. The cost of fuel ripples through the supply chain, making your milk, your eggs, and your heating bills immediately more expensive. This geopolitical posturing directly squeezes the pocketbooks of families already struggling with an unexpected job market downturn and a personal savings rate at a four-year low of 2.7%.
The people who are dying on the ground aren’t the political elites or the defense industry executives who are making fortunes off these conflicts. They are ordinary civilians and working-class soldiers. War is not a high-definition video clip designed to feed a social media algorithm. It is a human tragedy that inflicts immediate, real-world economic pain on everyday households. It’s time we turn off the war-porn feeds, ignore the partisan flag-waving, and start demanding common-sense, active diplomacy instead of endless remote-controlled escalation.
