Pawtucket, Rhode Island police have arrested two people after gunfire struck a child’s bedroom during a shooting last week, using license-plate recognition technology to track down a suspect vehicle.
What Happened
Officers responded to Prospect Street around 11:30 p.m. on August 25 after reports of shots fired, and found that nine shots had struck an apartment and the surrounding area, including one bullet that entered a child’s bedroom and struck the headboard.
How Police Made the Arrests
Detectives used Flock Safety license-plate reader cameras along with surveillance video to identify a vehicle connected to the scene. Police stopped the vehicle days later and arrested its occupants, Jose Lugo Jr. and Skyla Vaillant, who face charges including felony assault, firing in a compact area, and conspiracy.
No Injuries Reported
No one was hurt in the shooting, including the child whose bedroom was struck. The vehicle used in the shooting was seized as part of the investigation.
