Apple is unveiling its first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, along with a new A20 Pro chip at a live event underway at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. The event, teased under the name “Surprise and shine,” is the first major product launch overseen by new CEO John Ternus, who shared a teaser video on X shortly before taking the stage.

iPhone Duo: Apple’s first foldable
Apple has named its foldable device the iPhone Duo, confirming earlier reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The device uses a book-style folding design with a roughly 5.5-inch outer display and an approximately 7.8- to 8-inch inner display when unfolded, and it supports the Apple Pencil. It ships in dark blue and white, starts at $2,000 for 256GB of storage, and reaches roughly $3,000 for a 2TB configuration. Apple says the iPhone Duo will begin shipping in October.
Apple landed on the iPhone Duo name for the foldable iPhone and a $2,000 starting price, eating the additional memory costs. Storage capacities will reach 2 terabytes and roughly $3,000. It’ll ship in October, has support for the Apple Pencil and come in dark blue + white. https://t.co/58VLtVNka6

A20 Pro: a 2nm chip built for the fold
The iPhone Duo and the new iPhone 18 Pro models are powered by the A20 Pro, built on a 2nm process, making it the first smartphone chip on the market at that node. Apple says the six-core CPU, split between new “super cores” and efficiency cores, delivers up to 20% faster CPU performance and 40% better graphics than the prior generation, along with 50% higher memory bandwidth. The chip’s neural accelerators are built for faster on-device AI processing, and Apple has redesigned the chip’s packaging so the die sits closer to the thermal system, a change relevant to keeping a folding phone cool inside a slim chassis.

Also announced today
Alongside the iPhone Duo, Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, both priced $100 higher than last year’s models at $1,199 and $1,299. The Pro lineup gets a 48MP Fusion Camera with variable aperture, a smaller Dynamic Island that supports three simultaneous Live Activities, and battery life Apple says reaches 36 hours on the Pro and 45 hours on the Pro Max. Apple also announced AirPods 5, priced at $129 and $149, and an Apple Watch Series 12 with an updated heart-rate sensor.
This is a developing story tied to a live event and may be updated as Apple confirms additional details on stage.
