If the public outrage grows too loud, the league will issue a temporary, slap-on-the-wrist suspension.
This is the great, cynical contradiction: a player who tests positive for a recreational substance can face a season-long ban, but an athlete caught on camera assaulting a woman is often welcomed back to the field within weeks, complete with a multi-million-dollar contract extension.
We have allowed corporate greed and team loyalty to override our basic human morality. When we cheer for these abusers on Sunday just because they help our favorite team win, we are complicit in a culture that tells victims of abuse that their physical safety, dignity, and lives are worth less than a playoff victory. If the adult son of a sitting U.S. Congresswoman can allegedly operate a digital trafficking network targeting minors from his bedroom, then no child is automatically safe just because they live in a “good neighborhood.”
We are raising a generation of children inside massive, unregulated digital playgrounds like Roblox and TikTok. And instead of actively parenting them, we are outsourcing their education and safety to the very corporations that profit off their attention.
We’ve seen trends like the viral “how to kidnap me” format, where young teenagers literally package their real-world physical routines, vulnerabilities, and coordinates as cute, quirky social media punchlines. In our previous articles, we talked about how street smarts was your armor when growing up in a working-class neighborhood. You knew which streets to avoid, you knew never to talk to strangers, and you kept your head on a swivel.
But today, we have allowed Silicon Valley algorithms to dismantle that armor. Our kids are putting their entire lives on display, inviting predators directly into their bedrooms through their phone screens.
The Solution: Active Digital Parenting
We must stop expecting tech monopolies to protect our kids. They won’t. Roblox’s ongoing child safety challenges and Instagram’s failure to automatically flag exploitative rings prove that these corporations prioritize active engagement and ad revenue over the safety of your children.
It’s time to bring back old-school, hands-on street smarts.

- Teach Real-World Boundaries: Explain to your kids that the internet is not a cozy, safe space. It is a public highway filled with strangers. Teach them that sharing their location, their routines, or explicit photos is the digital equivalent of walking down a dark alley alone.
- Prioritize the Physical: Rebuild real-world, offline connections. Encourage your kids to play sports, join local clubs, and interact with actual neighbors.
True safety isn’t won by a corporate software update or a political campaign slogan. It is built on the ground, through active, protective, and loving communities that refuse to let the digital monolith exploit our families.
