A Miami restaurant executive is accused of fatally stabbing his mother inside a Brickell high-rise early Friday, then telling police in the lobby that he had acted in self-defense, according to police and prosecutors.
Stefano Cremasco-Cicero, 36, called 911 around 4:45 a.m. on September 4 from The Solitair, a residential tower in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood, according to Local10 and NBC 6 South Florida. When Miami police arrived, officers found him in the lobby with blood on his shoes, hands and clothing. He reportedly told them, “I was defending myself.”
Officers went up to the 47th floor and found his mother with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene around 5:05 a.m.
Who is Stefano Cremasco-Cicero
Cremasco-Cicero serves as the operating manager of the U.S. branch of Grupo Orfano, a hospitality group that runs 18 restaurants. The company opened 1986 Steak House in Coconut Grove in May. Neither Local10 nor NBC 6 has published a comment from Grupo Orfano on the arrest.
What prosecutors have charged
Miami-Dade prosecutors filed a charge of second-degree murder with a weapon against Cremasco-Cicero on Saturday, September 5. A judge denied him bond at his first court appearance, meaning he will remain in custody as the case moves forward.
Investigators have not released a detailed account of what happened inside the apartment before the 911 call, and no additional details about the nature of his claimed self-defense have been made public. The case remains under investigation, and he has not entered a plea.
