AI Slop Watch: Why We’re Tracking Trump’s Truth Social AI Habit Every Friday

Every Friday from here on, this column will do one thing: catalog whatever AI-generated images and videos President Trump posted to Truth Social that week, sourced and fact-checked, nothing embellished. This is the launch installment, so before we get to a specific week’s haul, it’s worth explaining why this needed its own recurring slot.

Why a whole column for this

Trump has posted dozens of AI-generated images and videos to Truth Social since returning to office in January, and by BeezLoop’s count roughly half of them landed in just August and September. That’s no longer an occasional gag from a staffer with a Midjourney account. It’s a sitting president using synthetic media as a routine communications tool, several times a week, sometimes several times a night.

We covered the full arc of that pattern in depth in an earlier piece, and it’s worth reading if you haven’t: the Elvis and Revolutionary War cosplay images, the video mocking Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer with fake audio, the Obama-as-apes clip the White House first defended and then blamed on a staffer, the crowned-king-in-a-fighter-jet video responding to the “No Kings” protests, the Lake Ontario “Lake America” sign-swap video tied to an actual executive order, the April image casting Trump in a Christlike healing pose, and the AI video claiming Iran’s Kharg Island oil terminal had been “blown to smithereens” during an active bombing campaign, which sent reporters and even Iranian officials scrambling before anyone confirmed no such strike happened.

What this column will and won’t do

Each week we’ll list what actually got posted, with dates and sources, and note when a claim embedded in a video or image is checkable against real events, the way the Kharg Island and Lake Ontario posts were. We won’t guess at motive beyond what’s documented, and we won’t repost anything as real that outside fact-checkers or the White House itself haven’t already confirmed was AI-generated. If a week is quiet, the column will say so instead of padding it out.

The pattern by now has its own shape: heroic self-portraits mixed in with attacks on critics, occasional religious imagery, and, more recently, posts that touch on live military and foreign policy events rather than staying in the realm of pure vanity content. Tracking it weekly is the only way to see whether that shape is changing or just repeating.
