A Boca Raton woman is facing DUI and hit-and-run charges after police say she rear-ended a Tesla Model Y, reversed into a second car, and fled the scene, only to be arrested about two hours later with what officers described as a crack pipe in plain view on her driver’s seat.

Allison Michael Laga, 50, was taken into custody after Boca Raton police say her white Toyota SUV struck a grey Tesla Model Y from behind at 2000 North Dixie Highway just before 5:50 p.m. on August 30. According to police, Laga then threw her SUV into reverse and struck a second vehicle, a white Toyota Camry, before driving over the median and heading east, away from the crash.

Tesla’s camera caught the whole thing

One of the drivers involved told responding officers that the Tesla’s onboard camera had recorded the entire incident. An officer reviewed the footage and, according to the police report, watched the white SUV strike the Tesla from behind, reverse into the Camry, and then leave the scene, matching the account given by witnesses at the intersection.

Damage to both vehicles was described as minor, and no injuries were reported.

Arrested roughly two hours later

Police located Laga and her vehicle approximately two hours after the crash, according to the arrest affidavit. She was taken into custody on charges that include DUI with property damage and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.

Drug paraphernalia allegedly found on driver’s seat

While processing the vehicle, an officer reported finding a glass pipe with residue and a piece of burnt copper wire sitting in plain view on the driver’s seat. The affidavit describes the combination as paraphernalia commonly used to smoke crack cocaine, and Laga was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges against Laga are accusations, and she is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
