U.S. Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., was caught on a home security camera opening a voter’s mailbox and flipping through the mail inside while campaigning ahead of Tuesday’s Republican primary in Florida’s 6th Congressional District.
The Ring camera footage, time-stamped 4:55 p.m. on a Sunday, shows Fine approaching an Ormond Beach home, ringing the doorbell and waiting on the porch, according to TMZ, which first published the video. While waiting for an answer, Fine can be seen looking at the mailbox mounted on the home’s exterior wall, opening it and rifling through the envelopes inside. The footage does not show him removing or tampering with any mail.
No charges, but Fine won’t confirm it’s him
Federal law makes it a crime to obstruct or tamper with mail delivery, but according to a follow-up TMZ report, Fine will not face federal charges over the incident.
When pressed on the video, Fine has declined to admit it shows him. “No, my office said it looked like me. I don’t know that it was me. I don’t remember doing it,” he told reporters, according to TMZ, and has suggested the footage could be AI-generated. His office had previously acknowledged to reporters that the person in the video appeared to be him.
The video circulated widely on social media and drew criticism from Democrats and mail-privacy advocates, with outlets including the Common Dreams and the Daily Beast framing it as a possible violation of federal mail statutes.
The race
Fine is campaigning in Florida’s 6th District primary, held Tuesday. He has represented the district in Congress since a special election in April 2025 and previously served in the Florida House.
