NASA astronaut Jessica Meir and ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot conducted just the sixth all-female spacewalk in history outside the International Space Station on Tuesday.
The Details
The spacewalk, designated US spacewalk 99, lasted 6 hours and 49 minutes, running from 8:40 a.m. to 3:29 p.m. Eastern time. The pair installed a new retroreflector on the forward port of the station’s Harmony module, a component used to support spacecraft navigation during docking and rendezvous.
A Rare Milestone
It was the first all-female spacewalk since May 2025, when NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers conducted one during the Crew-10 mission. It was Meir’s seventh spacewalk overall, moving her into third place all-time among women at NASA for total spacewalks, trailing only Suni Williams (9) and Peggy Whitson (10).
