The prevalence of guns in the United States, coupled with a rise in incidents where disagreements escalate into deadly encounters, has raised concerns about personal safety. While politicians argue that guns keep us safe, there is a growing concern about the increasing number of children dying from gun violence.

This has led some to wonder why civilians are not allowed to purchase bulletproof vests or why they are not legal in certain areas.

The legality of bulletproof vests varies by state. For example, in New York, most people were banned from buying, selling, or possessing body armor starting July 6, 2022, except for eligible professions like police and military. The Department of State was assigned responsibilities for setting criteria, reviewing requests, and establishing proof mechanisms. However, in many states, body armor is available for civilian purchase without requiring special paperwork or background checks, although felons are generally prohibited from buying body armor. Different states have varying regulations, and some states, such as Connecticut, mandate face-to-face transactions while others have rules against exporting or wearing armor while committing a crime.

While some may argue that these restrictions are in place to prevent criminals from obtaining protective gear, others believe that law-abiding citizens should have the ability to protect themselves, especially in a country where guns are so prevalent. It is important to consult local authorities and understand the laws in your area if you are considering purchasing body armor.

What do you think? should we be allowed to purchase and wear bulletproof vest or body armour? What about for children? Is this going to far?
