Trial of Lindsay Clancy, the mom who killed her 3 children, enters second week of testimony

The trial of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of killing her three children, has entered its second week of testimony. Proceedings have focused on evidence about Clancy’s mental state before and after the deaths, including statements recorded in a journal and accounts from mental health professionals.

An investigator testified about journal entries in which Clancy described feeling desperate for a mental break and completely overwhelmed. The entries were presented in court as part of the effort to establish what she was experiencing around the time of the killings. The testimony did not, by itself, resolve the legal questions before the jury.

A psychiatrist also testified that Clancy appeared calm and cooperative days after the children’s deaths. Separately, a psychologist described statements in which Clancy said she was horrified. The accounts offer different observations of her demeanor and reported feelings in the days following the incident.

The trial is continuing with testimony and other evidence concerning the circumstances of the children’s deaths and Clancy’s mental condition. The proceedings are expected to address the competing interpretations of that evidence as the court considers the charges against her.
