Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won the state’s Democratic Senate primary by a 20-point margin over Rep. Angie Craig, fueled largely by voter anger over the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement. In her victory speech, Flanagan said, “We need to rip ICE apart and stop them from terrorizing our communities,” referencing incidents earlier this year in which federal agents killed two people in Minnesota.
Flanagan’s platform includes Medicare for All and expanding Social Security. She was endorsed by retiring Sen. Tina Smith along with Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. She will face Republican nominee and former sportscaster Michele Tafoya in November.
