The Fairview Fire near Mead was reported to have grown to 979 acres, with Level 3, or “Go Now,” evacuations expanded for areas at risk. Another blaze, the Old Trails Fire, also led to the highest-level evacuation orders in northwest Spokane. Authorities urged residents in affected zones to leave as conditions developed.
In north Spokane, thousands of people were evacuated after a wildfire crossed a river and entered the city, according to reports. A thick cloud of smoke covered Spokane, reducing visibility and raising concerns about air quality. Fire crews continued working to contain the fires while officials monitored their movement and assessed threats to homes and other property.
