A judge temporarily blocked New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s pied-a-terre tax on second homes after a group of homeowners argued the program had been rolled out improperly, delivering an early legal setback to one of his signature policy proposals.
President Trump had separately said the tax “must be stopped” and indicated his administration was looking at options to block it at the federal level, adding political pressure to the ongoing legal fight.
The city is expected to appeal the ruling as the dispute over the tax’s implementation continues to play out in court.
