White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is stepping down at the end of August, President Trump announced, saying she wants to spend more time with her two young children.
Leavitt, who returned from maternity leave less than a month before the announcement after welcoming her second child in May, said balancing the around-the-clock demands of the job with raising young kids had become increasingly difficult. Trump said Leavitt will remain one of his “top outside advisors” and an influential voice within the Republican Party heading into the midterm elections.
Leavitt became the youngest White House press secretary in history when she took the role. A replacement has not yet been named.
