President Trump said Wednesday that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down from the role by the end of the month, citing her desire to spend more time with her young children after recently returning from maternity leave.
Leavitt, 28, gave birth to her daughter on May 1 and had been back in the briefing room for less than a month before the announcement. Trump praised her tenure and said she would continue working with him and the Republican Party in an outside advisory capacity ahead of the November midterms.
She became the youngest White House press secretary in history when she took the job at the start of Trump’s second term in January 2025. The White House has not yet named who will succeed her.
