Puerto Rico is facing another water crisis driven by historic drought and aging infrastructure, with hundreds of thousands of residents waking up to no running water as rationing measures took effect.
“It’s brutal,” one resident said, describing the impact of the water shortage on daily life. Officials say the combination of low rainfall and decades-old pipe systems has left the island’s water supply increasingly unreliable.
The crisis has also affected tourism, with visitors to the Caribbean hot spot scrambling to reschedule plans as water service disruptions spread across the island.
