China Issues Red Alert, Airports Cancel Flights as Typhoon Nears

China issued a red alert as Typhoon Dolphin approached the country’s eastern coast, prompting authorities and airports to take measures to limit the storm’s impact. Flights were canceled, while schools, tourist attractions and other activities were shut in areas preparing for potentially hazardous conditions.

Reports said more than 1 million people were evacuated ahead of the typhoon. The measures reflected concerns about strong winds, heavy rain and coastal disruption as Dolphin moved toward eastern China.

Before nearing China, the storm affected Japan’s southern islands, including Okinawa. Parts of the region experienced severe weather, and an airport in Okinawa was closed as the typhoon passed nearby.

Authorities in eastern China continued to monitor the storm and expand precautionary measures as it approached. The combination of transportation disruptions, evacuations and closures was expected to affect daily life across areas in the typhoon’s path.
