South Carolina Senate Runoff Kicks Off Between Graham and Norman

Appointed Sen. Darline Graham and Rep. Ralph Norman advanced to an August 25 Republican runoff for South Carolina’s U.S. Senate seat after Tuesday’s special primary, setting up a two-week sprint to decide the party’s nominee.

Graham, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, took roughly 32% of the vote in a crowded 10-way field, with Norman trailing at 24%. Addressing reporters Tuesday night, Graham leaned into her outsider status, saying she was “guilty as charged” of not being a career politician.

The runoff winner will face Democrat Annie Andrews, a physician who won her party’s primary in June, in the race to fill the remainder of Lindsey Graham’s term.
