Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley narrowly defeated democratic socialist Francesca Hong in Wisconsin’s Democratic gubernatorial primary, winning by roughly 3,000 votes, or about 0.4 percentage points, according to the Associated Press.
Crowley had briefly dropped out of the race before re-entering with outgoing Gov. Tony Evers’ endorsement. He and Evers argued Crowley offered a stronger general-election matchup against the eventual Republican nominee in a swing state where independent voters often decide close elections. Hong had faced negative press after old social media posts resurfaced during the campaign.
Crowley will face Republican Rep. Tom Tiffany in November.
