Pirro, in Rare Move, Convenes Special Grand Jury in Washington

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro has convened a 23-member special grand jury in Washington, D.C., a rarely used legal body that can investigate a single case or issue over an extended term of up to 36 months. Unlike standard grand juries, a special grand jury can release a report on its findings even without securing an indictment.

Prosecutor Steven Vandervelden, who previously investigated matters involving former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, is supervising the panel. It is not yet publicly known what the grand jury will investigate. The move comes after Trump pressured Pirro over her handling of a separate high-profile case, reportedly leaving her job status uncertain.
