The Trump administration plans to spend at least $900 million on White House construction projects, according to the Washington Post, with the total potentially reaching $927 million once Lafayette Square upgrades, a new helipad and a visitor screening center are included.
The figure includes a disputed ballroom project built where the East Wing once stood, previously pegged between $200 million and $600 million. Trump has said the ballroom would be privately funded, but a D.C. Circuit Court ruling found the decision on whether to build it belongs to Congress, not the executive branch. The administration has instead drawn funds from other federal agencies and private donors.
