Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won the state’s Democratic U.S. Senate primary by a wide margin over Rep. Angie Craig, a victory for the party’s progressive wing. Flanagan was backed by retiring Sen. Tina Smith and national progressive figures including Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
Flanagan’s campaign centered on Medicare for All, expanding Social Security and a pledge to dismantle Immigration and Customs Enforcement following incidents in which federal agents killed two people in Minnesota earlier this year. She will face Republican nominee and former sportscaster Michele Tafoya in the general election.
