Severe storms and a derecho swept across the Midwest, killing at least three people and knocking out power to more than a million customers at the peak of the outages across Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. Winds gusting over 80 mph downed trees and power lines. Dayton, Ohio, saw a record 2.07 inches of rain in a single day. Deaths included a suspected weather-related house explosion, a 4-year-old killed by a falling tree in Indiana, and an Ohio resident who died during a medical emergency when flooded roads delayed first responders.
