President Trump said New York City’s new pied-a-terre tax on second homes “must be stopped,” and indicated his administration is exploring options for a federal block on the measure championed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
A judge has already temporarily halted the tax’s rollout after homeowners alleged the program was implemented improperly, dealing a setback to the city’s plan to use the revenue for affordable housing.
The dispute is expected to continue playing out in court as the city weighs an appeal of the injunction.
