Week 5 had a walk-off 57-yarder in London, the first tie of the season, a Packers blowout of the Bears two days after Mike Ditka died, and a 49ers win that left San Francisco and Minnesota as the league’s last unbeaten teams. Here’s what happened Sunday.

How did the Jaguars beat the Eagles?
It was chaos from the opening kickoff in front of a record 61,322 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Two players were ejected after a fight, Jacksonville’s long snapper got hurt and a defensive tackle had to snap, which led to a missed extra point. Philadelphia kicked a field goal to go up by one with eight seconds left. Then Jake Elliott’s kickoff landed short, Ameer Abdullah returned it to the Eagles’ 39 with one second left, and Cam Little hit a 57-yard field goal to win it, NFL.com reported.
How did the Giants and Commanders end in a tie?
Washington had the ball in field goal range late in overtime with no timeouts. Jayden Daniels scrambled and went down with the clock running, the Commanders couldn’t get lined up to spike it in time, and the game ended 27-27. The Giants had their own chance before that, but Cam Skattebo fumbled on his third straight carry, and kicker Dominic Zvada had already missed three field goals. None of the four NFC East teams won this week, CBS Sports noted.
What happened in the Packers-Bears game?
Both teams honored Ditka with a moment of silence, and the Bears wore No. 89 stickers on their helmets. Then Green Bay ran them off the field. Jordan Love went 25 of 31 for 367 yards and two touchdowns to Christian Watson, who had 143 yards, and Xavier McKinney picked off two passes. Chicago, playing without Caleb Williams, turned it over four times in the second half and benched Tyson Bagent for Case Keenum. The Bears are 9-25 at Lambeau since Ditka’s era, the Chicago Sun-Times noted.
What else stood out in Week 5?
- Drake Maye is back. The Patriots QB accounted for five touchdowns, four passing and one rushing, in the 45-17 rout.
- Still unbeaten: the 49ers and Vikings are 5-0. Still winless: the Chargers, Dolphins and Titans are 0-5.
- A trade: After beating Tennessee, Houston coach DeMeco Ryans announced the Texans had traded for receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
The BeezLoop Take
The Jaguars’ finish is a reminder that the NFL’s new kickoff rules still produce chaos when a kicker misses his spot by a few yards. The Eagles lost a game they’d won because of one bad kick with eight seconds left.
And for Chicago, it was a rough way to say goodbye to Ditka. His teams made Lambeau their home. This version of the Bears looked nothing like his.
The open question: can anyone knock off the 49ers or Vikings before midseason?
Also on BeezLoop: Mike Ditka, Bears legend, died at 86, and the Cowboys lost to the winless Bucs.
